Treatment of Frazer and Bryson Causing Justifiable Anger

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“There is growing anger across the Unionist community at the treatment of William Frazer and Jamie Bryson by the PSNI and the courts.

“One of the reasons cited for the arrest of Mr Frazer on Monday night outside Portadown was his attendance at a protest at the Maze prison – a protest which, as was widely advertised on social media, was due to start at 7:30pm. Given that Mr Frazer was arrested twenty miles away from the Maze at 7:35pm the police claim that he was attending the protest at the former prison would be laughable if the issues involved were not so serious.

“I am informed that the treatment of Mr Frazer while being arrested was anything but gentle – a disgrace given his well-known medical condition.

“Did the PSNI seriously believe that during the G8 it was a sensible use of resources to seek Mr Frazer’s return to jail?

“Then yesterday we had the farcical decision to ban Jamie Bryson from attending a Remembrance parade in North Down. How on earth can Mr Bryson laying a wreath at a non-contentious Remembrance service in an overwhelmingly Unionist area present an opportunity for Mr Bryson to “commit further offences”?

“The PSNI approach to these two cases is nothing short of scandalous and is doing nothing whatsoever to improve the already seriously damaged relationship between the police and the Unionist community.”
