Dark Hedges Road Death

Admin —  September 26, 2018

Statement by Jim Allister MLA, TUV North Antrim:

“I was saddened to learn of the death of Mr Michael Munro, an American tourist, yesterday evening as a result of traffic collision on the Gracehill Road in Armoy. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family circle and friends at this time.

“This section of road has long been identified by residents of the area as an accident hotspot due to the tourist draw of the Dark Hedges which has brought a significant number of people and vehicles to this rural road. To that end I have written to the PSNI and DfI Roads to press for action to improve safety, particularly at the junctions.”

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Recently I asked the Minister for Social Development by way of a written question how many people currently owe the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in excess of £30,000 as a result of housing benefit fraud and, in terms of repayment arrangements, how many have arrangements likely to extend beyond their natural life expectancy. The following is a speech by Jim Allister during yesterday’s debate on shared education:

“Shared education, from everything that I see and hear about it, is one of those fluffy buzzwords that is supposed to give you a warm glow and can really mean whatever you want it to mean. It is clear in the House that it means different things to different interests. Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Today’s comments by the Culture Minister during question time when she dismissed a letter she hadn’t read as “gossip” were nothing short of scandalous.

“For her information, the fact that someone of the standing within amateur boxing internationally of Ray Rodgers has come out and backed Sandy Row and called for a Northern Ireland Amateur Boxing Association is highly significant. I have long argued that there is no reason why two organisations couldn’t operate within Northern Ireland and Mr Rodgers cites an interesting model to follow. As he points out: Continue Reading…

Statement by TUV leader Jim Allister:

“Having long campaigned on the issue I greatly welcome confirmation today that Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy has won the battle for funding for the A26. The state of the road has been a constant bugbear for both residents and visitors. It is one of the main arteries in our Province, has one of the highest daily vehicle usage figures, and has a tragic death rate. There has been a pressing need to upgrade it for many years and today’s news will be welcomed both in North Antrim and further afield.”

Responding to comments by prominent GAA TV commentator Joe Brolly TUV leader Jim Allister said:

“The remarks by Joe Brolly underscore just how foolish Peter Robinson was in attending last night’s event and praising the GAA for supposedly reaching out across the divide. Continue Reading…
